Breast cancer: How long did you wait for your HER2 results?

Hi all.

I've read a few posts from various people and I too are searching for answers.

I hv been recently been diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer.  My question is how long have some of you had to wait for your HER2 results. It's been over 3 weeks now and my results hv not been sent back.  I am worried as they can not start the treatment until these result come back.  It  took 2 weeks to get my results from my first biopsy and I hv to have a second biopsy today to checked the other side of my breast and the other side of my lymph node  as the first lymph node came back as binine.

Any info would be really appreciated.

Thank you

    Hi Lazza,

    Welcome to our forum,

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It is good news that your lymph node came back as benign, but you must be upset at having a further wait for your second biopsy. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years and, in both cases, my HER2 results came back about 2-3 weeks after my initial biopsy results.

I know what a worrying time all this waiting is. Try to keep yourself busy to distract from the wait and, don't Google under any circumstances, as you will only scare yourself stiff for no good purpose.

Please keep us updated. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi thank you for the reply. I'm not sure if I posted what I wrote in the right place as I am new to this.

I had a vacuum biopsy today which I didn't realise  i was hving as I read my letter wrong.  And to b honest i didn't know what this was going to entail.  It was for me very painful even though they had numbed my breast with 4 injections.  I now hv to wait another 2 weeks for the results and god knows how long i will hv to wait to see an oncologist. They also tested my lymph note again just to make sure it was still benign.  I just feel like everything is just long.  I'm off work now as my boss says I am high risk with this covid 19 goin on so I hv nothing to occupy my mind.

I would be interested on other peoples views.

    Hi Lazza,

You are posting in exactly the right place. I am so sorry to hear that you found your biopsy so sore today despite the 4 injections. It sounds as if you could have done with more anaesthetic still. I found that my breasts remained tender for quite a while after my biopsies.

Still, itis good to get this behind you and to move another step forward. You will be worried until you get your results back and, this won't be helped by being off work. Do you have a project that you can get into at home to take your mind off the wait?

I hope that the results show that your lymph node is still clear. Please keep us posted.
    Kind regards,

  • Hi all

I hv now had my results back and I am HER2 positive. I'm not sure if that is good or bad.  I hv also had a date to see my oncologist.  Which is a little relief but now I'm nervous about the chemotherapy treatment.

I hv been feeling anxious and teary over the last couple of days but I'm putting it down to the time of the month as previous to that I hv been positive.   It's still all over welming as i still cant believe I hv breast cancer.  I walk around and find myself analysing people and noticing bad habits like them drink or smoking and I feel envious that there is nothing wrong with them. Is that bad?

I'm trying to b so normal but it's so hard.  I just need to get back to being positive again.
