Can you attend results- COVID????

Hi, my father is due to go and meet consultant this Friday and is relying on me to go with him. After all the scans and biopsies over the past month they have had mdt meeting and now want to see him to discuss all results and plans going forward, obviously we are all scared as we don't know yet but we do know none of it is looking good. My questions and worry is am I allowed to attend this meeting due to COVID as if he went on his own it would be useless as his memory is rapidly declining and doesn't take much in?? Please if anyone has been here what's happened. I'm awaiting a call back tomorrow from the consultants secretary to see if I'm allowed but everything has been pinned to this Friday and I completey forgot I may not be able to go.

  • I imagine it varies between hospitals, but I've had two meetings with my consultant during the lockdown and my wife has been allowed in, not in case I forget something (although it does happen!) but just for support.   Don't forget all the staff are caring and understanding, especially with cancer care, see what the secretary says tomorrow, but I'm sure it'll be ok.

    Take care.   Colin.

  • Hi Colin

thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

they have said they normally prefer only one coming in but as it's my dad then I'm allowed. Just counting down the days till Friday now it's the unknown at the moment.

    thank you

    Mandy

  • I thought it would be ok.    If you don't mind me making a suggestion, try and think of all the questions you would like to ask, make a note and take it to the meeting.       You always come out and 10 minutes later think of something you forgot.

Take care,  hope it's the best possible outcome.   Col.

  • Best of luck today, I hope its good news.

    Take care.   Colin.

  • Thank you so much for thinking of us. Meeting was ok however I still feel we are in just as much limbo as before and knew the news was coming. Consultant has said that the large lumps on his neck are clusters, they also only done needle biopsy before and now want a large biopsy so when that appointment comes through he will have to isolate for 14 days due to it being operation. He's due in for pet scan tomorrow, consultant had said he would have preferred it already done but couldn't get another day, then they will have MDT meeting Tuesday then arrange appointment to see us against. He has said basically the large clusters are secondary and hopefully pet scan will show up where primary is and if there's any more, but even if there's a possibility of treatment he said it's going to be harsh. Sorry for long winded reply just a little lost at moment even if I did kind of guess what was coming.

i hope you are doing ok and again thank you for thinking of us

    Mandy x

  • I imagine you're thinking things aren't going forward as quickly as you expected, but that's a good indicator i think.   When I first had my problem, everything went at 100 miles an hour, doctors, scans, MDT, operation and home, fixed!            Now, because my follow up scan showed a couple of enlarged lymph nodes they've been checking allsorts and its taken best part of 9 weeks to get some answers.        Since then I've had petscan, ct, biopsies etc.     I  was at the  hospital yesterday as well, my consultant is confident the cancer hasn't come back but they're going to do more haematology tests to make certain.   What I mean is if its really important, then it gets done really quickly.

I know it's easy to say but try not to worry too much, it's at times like this when your Dad needs you, just    as my son and daughter were for me.

My turn for the long winded reply!!

    Take care.   Colin.
