Genetic Testing

Hi All!

I was diagnosed with stage 1 TNBC IDC earlier this year.  I've had genetic testing for BRCA1, BRCA2, PALB and CHEK2.  All negative.  My mum had late stage lobular hormone positive.  As far as I'm aware there are no other family members with a history of breast cancer.  I'm wondering whether I should pursue further genetic testing.

Thanks!

  • Hello

I was diagnosed TNBC IDC last week, I'm 37 with no family history and the Royal Marsden have already tested for the gene.

I think this is partly due to my age and the cancer being triple negative.

I would push for a test..it could effect you future treatment.

What treatment have you had so far?

It's always nice to speak to people a in similar situation.

    Xx

  • Hello and sorry you find yourself here!  What genes are they testing for?  There are main ones (as said in my previous post) but there is a whole raft of others they could potentially test for.

I'm 44.  Diagnosed at the start of March this year.  I had a lumpectomy at the end of March and am now part way through chemo.

Have you got a treatment plan yet? What stage etc?

  • Oh it's just so horrible isnt it.

They have tested for all of them, I dont see a pattern in my family but apparently it has to start somewhere so maybe that's me..who knows! It's a long wait but I have a treatment plan regardless

Masectomy in under 2 weeks (cancer is in my nipple) , I meet the consultant next week and I'll ask if I can have a double, immediate reconstruction, then chemo topped of with radiotherepy.

     How have you found chemo?

How are you mentally? Do you fear it coming back?

.its been a rough week, I was diagnosed on july 9th so it's been a whirlwind with a lot of info to take in.

I hope you're holding up ok

    Xx
