Does a face to face mean no treatment?

My mum was diagnosed with lung cancer 2 months ago. During lockdown she received the diagnosis over the phone and was sent for more tests. We are waiting for a prognosis and have been sent an appointment for a face to face (even though we were told they could do either phone call or F2F). Has anyone experienced this? I'm thinking they're going to say they won't be treating her, but just a gut feeling. Any past experiences would be appreciated. Thanks in advance and hope you're all as well as you can be x

  • Hello Amanda1969

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis. Understandably you're concerned about what will happen at this next appointment and what the results of her most recent tests will say.

Prior to Covid19 it was very unusual indeed for patients to have phone appointments with Consultants however things have changed over the past few months and now it seems that many cancer services are trying to resume a more normal way of working. Please don't read anything into how quickly Mum does or doesn't get an appointment nor what a face to face appointment may mean as opposed to a phone call.

If you'd like to talk your concerns through with one of our nurses then you're welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that your Mum's appointment brings some positive news.

    Best wishes,
