Help - mum diagnosed, is delay in treatment normal?

Hi, my mum was admitted to hospital last Thursday following some blood tests. She was diagnosed last Friday with cancer in various organs. She is still in hospital now but no treatment has started. Is this delay in treatment normal?

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat forum SuzeYD although Im sorry about your mum's recent cancer diagnosis.

We have some information about treatment times on our website just here but there may be delays due to the current pandemic.

Hopefully some of our members will let you know about their experiences soon but if you'd like to have a quick chat with one of our nurses about this then you give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Fingers crossed your mum won't be waiting too long.

    Best wishes to you both,

  • Hello I am so sorry to hear about your mum.I dont want to scare you or dissapoint you but when I was diagnosed in May 2019 with stage 4 breast cancer and lung mets I didn't start treatment till August.

They were doing this scan and that scan and this test and that test.I had to actually threat them with legal time limit for starting the treatment.

You need to be pushy sometimes nowadays they have covid excuse for everything. Its not good for the cancer sufferers. We are sick people too.
