Recurrent cervical cancer

Hi people,

I had cervical cancer - grade I2a in April 2019 and underwent a full hysterectomy and oophrectomy and had been in the clear till a few weeks ago when I had aches and pains in my lower back and stomach. After a trip to see my consultant, an examination under anaesthetic and a PET scan, it turns out it's back, with two tumours at the top of the vagina vault and one or two on my lower abdomen.
I went to see the oncologist yesterday who advised that I shouldn't be adopting kids or getting a large mortgage and that if I was presenting for the first time he's say I'm stage 4 which is incurable which devastated me. He's told me that the treatment options are 6 rounds of chemo, 3 weeks apart followed by radiation or I could look at getting involved in a clinical trial (which I currently know nothing about and will take 6 weeks to know whether I would be suitable anyway).

Has anyone had experience with recurrent cervical cancer outside the cervix, any clinical trials? Before seeing the oncologist, I thought we were going to just get this done but I'm an absolute mess after his comments.

thanks,

kat

  • Hi [@CaptainKatSparrow]‍

I havent gone through this at all but i was crushed for you reading it i wanted to offer you a hug. I have never know anything said so blunt. I dont know how old you are but surely some one can offer help on  clinical trials. Have you enough support? could someone in your family find out the answers? i wish i could help it sounds a lot to take in....i just didnt want to read and pass without sending my love. x

  • Hi Kat

i too am a reoccurring cervical cancer patient. Unfortunately mine is now terminal and I'm received palliative chemo, 3 wks apart.
In the Jo's Trust website under the Living with Advanced Cancer forum there is a lot of information on clinical trials as well as a woman who regularly posts who knows a lot about trials.
    hope this helps.
