Invasive ductal cancer

Hi everyone

ive been diagnosed with invasive ductal cancer. Has anyone else had this and what were your treatment afterwards. They've said radiotherapy and 5 years tablets but they will look at chemotherapy after surgery to see if I need this. Anyone else had both. Thank you

  • Hi Marie

do you have shares in Holland and Barrett hahaha thats a lot.

Thank you for replying it helps I haven't got a clue. Tamoxifen my friend lost her hair to it and she hated it so went onto another tablet. I get my surgery results on Wed so I'll get told treatment plan.

  • Yep costs a small fortune at H&B  all advised by the oncologist

I'm not bothered as long as it keeps the C away

hopefully it will ..to be honest I feel really great it's been a tough time don't get me wrong I was a wreck when diagnosed last September it's definitely been a rollercoaster but come through it good I didn't need chemo as my test that was sent off to America for the oncotype was a low score this is done after the lumpectomy so chemo wasn't advised for me I suppose I was very lucky your team will discuss what treatment and tablet options are available for you there's many to choose from so if one does not suit you another one can be had you'll feel better once you get a treatment plan I had 15 rounds of radiation therapy my receptors was ER positive Her2 negative .

  • I am ER positive and HER negative it was 2cm in size.

  • Hi Marie,

my diagnosis was the same as yours in October last year. Like you a low Onco score also meant I didn't need to have chemo.

I had 15 sessions of radiotherapy plus 5 years of Letrozole. (I don't take it as prescribed. Take one every other day which is possibly very foolish but it's what I am prepared to do for the very slight advantages I will get from taking it!)  No side affects to speak of so far. So glad I am not left sweating for England!!
So really wanted to ask how your breast feels after the radiotherapy?? Mine was left feeling very 'heavy" plus feeling stiff a lot of the time. My shoulder too was quite stiff. However I feel 5 months on that things are improving. Is that true for you too??

Psychologically it's a bit of a storm eh?!! Knocked me for six really. Finding my equilibrium now though. Gradually returning to the normal me!!! Life is on the up, despite COVID!!

    Wishing you well. Stay safe.

  • Hi,

Sorry you have been diagnosed with IDC  I have been too grade 2 in April, had lumpectomy and SNB in June, fortunately no lymph node involvement and low Oncotype score so I didn't need chemotherapy . I was initially put on letrozole pre op (due to covid) even though I'm pre menopausal. In my post op review I was changed to tamoxifen for 5 years and I've just finished a shortened course of radiotherapy of 5 days (also due to covid).
wishing you all the very best for your review x

  • How did you feel after 5 days full on radiotherapy.
    thanks for replying

  • It was remarkably fine, I was really worried baout the deep breathing but they were really good at coaching you through it. I am really glad that I didn't have to go for 3 weeks, which is what it was pre covid so I think myself lucky.  My boob has been fine and I am using e45 cream on it. How are you doing?
