Hiya.
My grandad has just been diagnosed with lung cancer. We are extremely close, my mum was a single parent and we lived with my grandparents and they helped raise me. My mum passed away in September unexpectedly and this has come as a huge blow for my grandad and all our family. The thing is we haven’t been able to get many answers at all and that’s what has brought me here.
It started with shoulder pain, X-rays showed a shadow on his left lung so they got him a CT scan. This showed up a mass which they discovered to be 8cm at the bottom of the lung. They are almost certain, due to them being inflamed, that it has spread to his lymph nodes on the same side and there is a possibility it’s gone to his adrenal gland by his kidney although they aren’t sure of this yet.
Hes 78 and has many health complications, so they cannot do a biopsy to determine a stage or type or anything really. All they have said is that he isn’t strong enough for treatment of any kind for the cancer and it will only be pain management. It all depends on how well he fights it off?? I just don’t feel satisfied with that at all he is scared and what’s to know what’s going on. We can’t get any sort of answers without the biopsy and we are so scared we just want to know what kind of time frame we have or if anyone has been in similar circumstances or know if anything we could ask towards pointing us in the direction of some sort of proper diagnoses.
Sorry this is all over the place and probably has a lot of mistakes I haven’t been able to switch off all day.
Oh oh I forgot to mention he will be getting a bone scan soon to check for ‘hot spots’ ? Although I don’t know what this means?
thanks in advance x
