breast reconstruction

Hi

I am 48yrs and recently been diagnosed with invasive lobular breast cancer.  Due to the size of tumour, I have been advised a mastectomy is required but due to current restrictions Im unable to have immediate reconstruction surgery.  Im waiting for the results of a core biposy and may start chemo before surgery, giving a chance for restrictions to be lifted.

I have accepted chemo and surgery but I would love to hear other experiences on reconstructive surgery.  Im concidering DIEP abdominal free-flap breast reconstruction and wondered if anyone on this forum has gone through the same.

Im exhaused from all the waiting and information so far, so any advice would be greatfully appreciated!

  • Hi did they tell you all this without your biopsy results? They told me I had breast cancer then the biopsy cane back benign m, so I've had another biopsy still waiting for results xx

  • Hi,  Yes, I have already had my results from the initial biopsy in the right breast and additionally had an MRI, where they detected something on the left breast.  Samples taken following a biopsy so will get the results tomorrow (hoping this is benign).

Sorry, the results Im waiting on are from the oncotype test where my biopsy samples were sent off to determine how effective neoadjuvant chemotherapy before surgery would be (and hopefully reduce the size of my tumour before surgery).

The care team have been amazing and explained all the different types of whole breast reconstruction including implant based, latissimus dorsi muscle and DIEP abdominal free-flap breast but I now need to make decision.  As I mentioned, I am considering DIEP abdominal reconstruction but would love to hear other members experiences.   Would love to hear!
