Lobular Cancer -Anxious!!

Hi

I'm new to this and have been this week diagnosed with lobular cancer provisionally grade 2 but now waiting for a MRI Scan on Monday.
Today I have noticed that my underarm just above my right breast where the mass is, is now swollen! Does this indicate it has gone into the Lymph nodes? Or is this normal?

  • Hi Betty.Boo

I was diagnosed with grade 2 lobular as well as grade 2 ductal and high grade DCIS in 2018. Thankfully my nodes were clear. I understand why your worried about swelling but this could be something unrelated to the cancer. I'm sure they would have checked your lymph nodes when you first went to the clinic and that they looked clear - otherwise they would be doing a CT scan rather than a MRI. As you've probably been told Lobular has different characteristics to Ductal and it takes a MRI to get a clear indication of the extent of it.

Best of luck for Monday and hopefully treatment will start soon x

  • Hi, I was diagnosed with grade 2 lobular breast cancer last July. At my screening they found my tumour with ultrasound and scanned my arm pit at the same time and checked for swollen nodes. The MRI scan will give a lot better picture of your tumour as lobular cancer doesn't often show up on a mammogram. When they operate they will check your lymph nodes for signs of spread. Try not to worry. Xx

  • Hi!

Im in same boat. Diagnosed with bilateral ILC last week and off for my MRI scan on Wednesday. You will be like me .... just want to know what's there and get a plan of action asap. The waiting is so bad!
