Any help or advice

I have been diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer and a mass in my right lung, and also swollen lymph nodes in my lung. I spoke to the nurses today because although I knew about the lung mass i had no idea where in my lung it was. Apparently the mass and the swollen nodes are in my middle lung. I am due to have a broncoscopy next Tuesday ( I am petrified of it) does the mass in my lung position mean if it is a separate one they will remove my whole lung as its the middle, she said the best outcome for me was two separate  cancers and they would remove them both with surgery. Any one who has had this I would be grateful of any info

  • Hi PLJ Queeen I'm in a similar boat as you. I have a lobectomy next week to remove my left lower lobe. It has all been too quick for me. I finished chemotherapy for prostate cancer last February then had a CT scan to see how things had gone...brilliant for my prostate - but they found two things on my lung! sent for a PET scan 2 weeks ago and next week having the operation!
One person said 'we think its cancer' then someone else said 'we need to know what kind of cancer it is, they are in a difficult place for a biopsy so we'll  take it all out' !!!  yes I too am terrified

  • Thanks for your reply, i only got my oesophageal cancer diagnosis on 12th June the mass in my lung showed up on the CT scan for that, so everything has happened at once, i am so scared, I live alone as my hubby died if Lung Cancer 3.5 years ago, so have lots of time to brood, rant and feel sorry for myself.

  • Hi PJLQeen, Did you have the bronchoscopy? How did it go?
I had my assessment yesterday and feel slightly more at ease talking to the nurse, but the proof will be in the pudding next Wednesday!

  • My Broncoscopy is next Tuesday 30/06/20, so still waiting. I am glad you feel a little easier, knowledge is a powerful tool

  • PJL Queen, HA! I'm being admitted on the 30th too, only my bloody birthday aint it!!!

  • I wish I was at a treatment stage as I am now at Day 60 from referal, unfortunatly it is going to be at least another 3 weeks before I get all the results, I am finding the waiting so awful, it would have been much quicker if they hadn't found the mass and swollen glands in my lung, but just got to go with it and hopfully it will happen quite quickly once the diagnotics are over.

I hope your op is the best birthday present you could have as it is making you well, you will never forget it and think of all the making up for my ruined buirthday you can do afterwards. LOL

  • Hi PJLQueen, i too live alone and i too have had a cancer scare, although my cancer is different to yours mine is terminal. I will start treatment on July 11th to prolong my life so i can spend as much time with my family. Living alone is very hard in a situation like this so surround yourself with family and friends, telephone chats too and please use the helplines to talk to people, its a massive help. I understand what you are going through and wish you all the best xx
