Hello
I was diagnosed with DCIS in my right breast after my very first mammogram in March this year. After a couple of biopsies in 2 different areas, it was seen as a large area of 10cms of the DCIS and only option being a mastectomy of my right breast. I have been absolutely devastated and anxious and worried leading up to this..to say I was shocked is an understatement! I felt no different and hard to accept this diagnosis.
I had the mastectomy on Tuesday this week with an overnight stay as my surgery was late in the afternoon. I couldn't have the immediate reconstruction because of the covid situation. This has really got me down as hard to look at the flat area of my chest. I'm wearing the softie cushion the nurse gave me, under a sleep bra all day and night. I have to isolate for 2 weeks so I'm just in my pjs!
My next stage is the results on 1st July to which I'm absolutely dreading! Hopefully I won't need any chemotherapy etc as that will tip me over the edge!
My wound dressing will also be removed on the same day. I'm taking co-codamol and ibuprofen painkillers at the moment. Although I'm feeling ok in myself as can move about etc. The surgical stockings have to be worn for 2 weeks too!
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has needed further treatment for a large area of DCIS after a mastectomy? And what type of breast reconstruction did you have? I'm thinking of the diep one where the skin is taken from the stomach area.
Sorry for the long post! I just want to chat with anyone in same situation as me.
I still feel like I'm in a bad dream..surely we are due some good news this year!
Xx
