Anyone with cancer and a heart condition here?

Hi again,

I was wondering if anyone has a heart condition (I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and an ICD) and has received treatment for cancer? (Just been diagnosed with breast cancer but haven't got a full diagnosis yet).

I was told chemo was the plan to shrink the lump then surgery then radio. The dr said he would contact my cardiologist to discuss treatment etc but I'm so worried I wont be able to have chemo etc bec it will counteract my heart medication etc. I generally dont have heart symptoms just the odd palpitation here and there and I can exercise okay (albeit I'm not the fittest person). I'm also 23 so I'm hoping my age plays a positive role in this context.

I just wanted to know how your heart condition has affected your treatment? Thanks

  • I found out in april 2020 I have womb cancer and recently had a stent put in after a heart attack, (march. 2020) Im waiting to have a hysterectomy but due to covid and the medication I take I cant have the operation just yet, they said they would have to work closely with cardiology, to plan the safest way to do the hysterectomy, they said I might have to be awake like they do in a caesarean, ( had 4 of those already, was awake with 3 of them), pior to my heart attack I had an irregular heartbeat at times

  • Thanks for your reply and sorry to hear you've gone through all of that! When you say due to the medication you take- can I ask why that would delay it? Is it so they have time to consult with cardiology?

I was also told my dr would consult with my cardiologist but I hope this doesn't delay things too much

  •  I'm on a Blood thinner, plus I had/have really bad anaemia, I have no idea what its doing at the moment, as I have not as yet had a blood test to check it due to covid, but whilst in hospital I needed a blood transfusion (4units) was given iron tablets too, to do the operation they will have to take me off the bloodthinner, (The bloodthinner is to stop clots forming in my heart after having a stent put in).

I still get a lot of a fluttering feeling like butterflies, heart rate seems to go faster, skips a beat, sometimes I get a little light headed, and a little breathless at times, some of it could be anaemia, I also have other health issues, but like you they want to work closely with cardiology, the waiting to have it removed is hard, I worry they wont be able to do the hysterectomy.

I wish you well and hope they can sort out some treatment for you.

  • That sounds really rough! Yeah the wait is horrible but I can only imagine what its like for you as you experience those symptoms too. I hope they can do the op for you soon and please let us know how things go x

I have sent you a request too x
