Newly diagnosed Liposarcoma

Met with surgeon today and after 3 months finally have a diagnosis

Choices for treatment are amputation (lower left leg) or removal of tumour then radiotherapy which has 60/40 chance of complications.

Cancer hasn't spread which is good news but have to go for cat scan next week operation within 2 weeks.

Am adamant I don't want amputation at age 66. But surgeons and team think it's best option They're thinking cancer I am thinking trauma and life changing effects. And it's my choice/ body

Finally told family and son dropped off a decent curry just now had a distance chat.

Sarcoma nurse is lovely and surgeons clearly excellent

  • Hello Mermaid132,

How lovely that your son dropped off a decent curry and you managed to have a distance chat. I am glad that you are in the hands of excellent surgeons and have a lovely sarcoma nurse too.

Those are indeed difficult choices and I hope you can find the best option for you once you have discussed things with your medical team. It's really good news that the cancer hasn't spread.

Our nurses are also a free phone call away if you would like to talk things through with them. You can always ring them on 0808 800 4040 Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

Good luck with your CAT scan next week and your operation. Keep us updated on how it goes and what you decide to do. We'll be thinking of you!

    Best wishes,

  • I’m sorry to hear of your diagnosis and it’s a really hard choice and so hard to go through something like this, when the world around seems to be great for everyone else.

With the amputation atleast that way it’s completely gone and you can put the cancer side of things behind you, also I’m sure they will have great prosthetic legs that can keep you mobile. Can you do the second option and if they fails go for the amputation? Or is it either or?
