Diffused Gastric Cancer- Stomach and Peritoneal space

Hello everyone,

My uncle has just had his MDT after being diagnosed with stage 4 diffused gastric cancer.

They believe it is primary stomach cancer that has spread to the peritoneal space with deposits there. He could potentially have colorectal cancer. They have said it is stage 4 and that no surgery is available.

My uncle does not want to know prognosis and we all agree that he shouldn’t. They have offered him chemotherapy to keep it at bay and make him as comfortable as possible for as long as possible.

does anyone else out there have any experience with this type of cancer? If so- any advice on what we should expect?

  • Hi, not sure if I can help or not. Sadly I lost my father just before Xmas 2019. Despite having symptoms of stomach cancer it was missed by hospital and GP. He died just after diagnosis.

You need to push to get answers, as we found that they did not want to overwhelm us. My father's had spread to his liver and his bones. I cannot stress enough that you ask and don't let them fob you off. We were told 'not talking months', he died two days later. No choice of surgery, chemo anything. I have seen many posts on here that refer to chemo which eases, slows down but it will not cure.

I am sorry if this may scare or upset you. If he can have chemo then he could live with cancer for much longer. How long is an impossible answer. We never really had the chance to come to terms, to prepare or to really say goodbye. If you can get the answers then maybe you can plan and say/do the things you want. To get him home may be what he wants.

Good luck and once again, I am so sorry that you are going through this. Seven months on and we have still not come to terms with our loss. The unanswered questions play on our minds, the what if's and getting any information afterwards is even harder and leads to more. Take care, be brave. Regards x
