Diffuse Gastric Cancer/Stomach stage 4/ linitus plastica

Hello,

My uncle is currently in hospital after being diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. The consultant told me yesterday that he has diffuse gastric cancer and it is very aggressive. It has spread into the peritoneal cavity and spreading around his abdomen quickly.

We are waitng for the MDT meeting next week. Can anyone offer any help or advice on this type of cancer?

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear about your uncle my mum was diagnosed of Linitus Plastica in February after having reduced appetite and naseau since Xmas.  Sadly she died on 3 june., she was 86 . Following  the MDT she was  for best supportive care but due  to covid 19 situation  this mainly consisted of phone calls from various agencies but no visits until the last few weeks when district nurses got involved.  anyway our family  managed between us to look after her.  In the last 2 week's she was at my brothers home and also under the care of our local hospice at home nurses who were brilliant.  Her main symptoms throughout all this were not eating,  weight loss and naseau. She managed soups etc and fluids but even the soups stopped in the last few week's she couldn't manage them.  She never complained of pain from it even up to the last day all she had was paracetomol and codeine occasionally.   Unfortunatley its agressive and we didnt get much time I hope this info helps a bit and that your uncle doesn't suffer . Take care
