Mom diagnosed lung cancer

Hi all. I'm Emma. My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer last Friday. All within a few days. She has COPD and I had to take her to a and e as her emergency pack of steds and antibiotics wasn't working. I took her on Tuesday they sent her for CT scan Wednesday and rung her up on Thursday to go back for results on the Friday.  All we was told well what i remember being told is that. It's on one lung but the centre of chest and across chest is enlarged. It's also inoperable.  She is due biopsy next Wednesday.  I am so concerned tho as she in a lot of pain and feeling sick and her arm really hurts her and across her chest. She's barley sleeping or eating and is now saying she's got a terrible smell and thinks she smells (but she does not).  Has anyone got any information for me? She's 65 yrs old

  • Hello Emma

Welcome to the forum although I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum's diagnosis this week. I'm sure that it has been a difficult time for you both.

It's understandable that she's struggling with sleeping and eating if she's been unwell enough for you to take her to A&E this week as well as the added shock and anxiety of the news she was given.

We know that this period of waiting for tests and results can be really difficult for some people. Hopefully the biopsy on Wednesday will give the Consultants more information and they will then be able to talk to you both about the options that may be available to Mum.

You're welcome to give our team of nurses a call. They may be able to give you some more advice and support in the meantime. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

If in the meantime you're really concerned about the pain that Mum is experiencing then do get in touch with her GP or the Out of Hours service who will be able to give you advice or arrange for her to be seen if necessary.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
