ET questions

Hello. I am new to this forum and I apologise if I am posting wrongly or in the wrong section

I was referred to a hematologist as my blood platelets have been high for the last 6 months. To start with my GP thought it might have been an infection so I had bloods taken every month and the levels weren't dropping.

I only had one appointment with the hematologist who said there was a chance it could be ET and booked me in for a bone marrow biopsy and a full body CT scan to check for any other problems. He started me on aspirin twice a day.

Unfortunately covid hit and my test had to be cancelled, this was just before the lock down. Just recently I have started to get pins and needles and numbness in both hands and both feet. I contacted my GP and he had more bloods tests done to check for any vitamin B or any other deficiency which will be sent to the hematologist who I have an appointment with on the 8th, (June). But I did a bit of googling about pins and needles and a couple of results referred TO these being side effects of ET but i can't find any info to say if ET gives this sensation in both hands and both feet at the same time.

I was hoping someone could shed some light on this for me.

Hopefully on the 8th he'll get me booked in for the tests again to find out if I have it or not.

Thank you for reading this. Jim

Edit. The hematologist also sent bloods off to check for gene mutations.

  • Hi Jim,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read what you're going through with this uncertainty, and especially that the appointments for the tests had to be cancelled. It's good to hear you have an appointment coming up soon and as you say hopefully this will provide some clear next steps towards some answers. Try to also use this appointment as an opportunity to discuss any questions - in the meantime it's best to stay away from Google as the information isn't specific to you, and can often also be irrelevant or outdated.

I hope you're able to get some answers soon for this.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi Ben.

Thank you for the kind welcome.

I have a long list of questions written down otherwise I would forget something.

Hopefully the doc will get the tests back on track.

    Thanks again, Jim
