  • Hello Shar14

I'm sorry to hear that your husband has been given a cancer diagnosis this week. It's such a difficult thing to hear and it's understandable that you're feeling confused and frightened at the moment.

You mention that they've not told you anything other than he needs surgery. It may be that until they have completed the operation that they don't have answers to the many questions I'm syre that you have. However we do have some information on our website about kidney cancer that you may find useful.

I think you may find is helpful to have a chat with one of our nurses. I'm sure that they would be able to offer some information and support. You can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Keep in touch Shar14 and let us know how things progress.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi there.  I am a kidney cancer patient - 9.5 years since diagnosis. I know this must be absolutely devastating for you right now. I remember feeling horribly stunned and everything moving far too quickly. The good news is, that if the tumour is confined to the kidney, surgery will offer a very good chance of a cure. Your husband's doctors will continue to scan and monitor your husband for years afterwards to be sure.

If you are looking for guidance, I can highly recommend joining a closed Facebook group called Kidney Cancer Support Network.  It's for patients and familhy members and I can honestly say that I owe it my sanity. There will always be someone there who has gone before you and the site admins have so much practical advice and information.

I wish you both well and hope you have plenty of support around you through this time.
