Metastatic Adenocarcinoma of Unknown Origin

Went to the doctor during the Covid-19 lockdown in April with a lump in my left armpit and was sent to the urgent breast clinic. Had mammogram and ultrasound which came back clear for any sign of tumours in my breast. However had biopsies taken on 4 enlarged lymph nodes in left axilla. Followed a week later by full body CT scan and MRI and bloods. Have subsequently been diagnosed with metastatic adenocarcinoma of unknown origin. MRI scan showed 2 extremely small white areas which could not be found on subsequent 3D mammogram and repeat ultrasound so this past weekend had MRI assisted breast biopsies in two different areas of my left breast. Now waiting to hear if this is the primary cancer. I am 62 and was feeling ok but oh so glad that I consulted the doctor about what I thought was a fatty lump. Hoping that treatment will be starting in the next couple of weeks but all discussions with the Consultant has been over the phone which is a bit disconcerting but cannot fault the helpfulness of the nurses in the Breast clinic with my queries to date. I am certainly not looking forward to the treatment but aim to remain positive as I have a new granddaughter (my first grandchild) arriving in October.
  • Hello Biddylou and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. I'm sure that you have many questions and we know that waiting for results can be a particularly difficult time. It's good to hear that despite the current pandemic, that the hospital have been swift in arranging your appointments and tests and that you've had good support from the breast care nurses.

Do you know when you are likley to hear the results from the most recent biopsies? Hopefully you won't have to wait too long and they will give the Consultant some firmer answers.

Hopefully some of our other members will pop along to say Hello! and share their experiences with you soon but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses then you're welcome to call them. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
