Pain Management

Hi all,

My mum has a recent diagnosis of primary liver cancer which has spread to the spine, in several areas. No symptoms of the liver cancer but she is experiencing a lot of pain due to the spine.

Does anyone have any experience of those type of pain? Mum is on oxycodone to manage pain: longtec and shorted and also a steroid. Doses are being upped almost weekly as nurses try to find the right dose for her but she's far from pain free. Currently she is on 65mg; is that a lot!? We don't have any context to reference with.

Also, she starts chemo this week. Will there be pain from the chemo? It's the lowest dose, to begin with.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

  • Welcome to the forum LennyMeg although I'm sorry about your mum's diagnosis and the pain she's currently in.

I do hope the nurses are able to find the right dose for her soon but if you'd like to have a chat with one of our cancer nurses about this then do give them a call. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

They will also be able to answer any questions you have about chemotherapy but I'm going to include some general information we have about the side effects for you to have a look at as well.

I hope this helps and your mum's chemo goes well.

    Kind regards,
