Low grade follicular lymphoma ,stage IEA

During lockdown my dad has been diagnosed woth the above in L2 vertebrae. He has been on a steroid tablet for the whole 7 weeks and had 1 course of radiotherapy we are yet to know the result of that...he has gone through this alone for 7 weeks with limited information for family he has finally been discharged but his anxiety and worry is so intense. He is worried about his cancer and compares it to other relatives who have had vast spread cancer in a terminal state and thinks that this is what he has to come. Can anyone give me any encouragement for him as to the wat grade IEA means and that his cancer is very manageable and he has alot of years left with us. Id also like this peace of mind ove been researching like mad and all results prove positive but id love to hear this from someone who understands this.

Many thanks

Shannon

  • Hello Shannon

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's recent diagnosis. It sounds as if it's been quite difficult for him and this is a natural response for many people who are diagnosed with cancer. Add to this that he has had to deal with this alone due to the Covid19 pandemic and it's understandable that he's feeling anxious and worried.

Hopefully the results of his treatment will be available soon and will bring positive news. If it's not possible for a family member to attend the appointment in person with Dad then you may want to chat with him about the possiblity of being able to call one of you to be on speaker phone whilst he is there. Or alternatively giving permission for one of the health professionals involved to speak to a family member about things.

Low grade lymphomas are slow growing which is a positive aspect of this diagnosis. You might find it helpfu lto have a look at the Macmillan page here as well as the Lymphoma Action website. You're welcome to call and speak to one of our nurses who I'm may be able to help answer some of your questions and offer some support. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I do hope that your Dad starts to settle and feel better soon.

    Best wishes
