Various family member with possible cancer

Hi everyone,

My brother in law was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, based in his tongue but also spreading to both sides of his neck. He's still so young, only in his late 30s. He's currently undergoing both radio and chemotherapy but he has been really poorly and unable to eat or drink so has been in and out of hospital.

This is such a worrying time but then last week my mother in law went to the the doctors with ongoing earache and they have noticed she has a growth in her tonsil so we are now awaiting an ENT appointment for her too.

I'm so worried for both my mother and brother in law and I'm so worried about the outcome for them both. Not sure why I'm really posting I just need to vent really and also ask what my brother in laws chance of survival is? I just keep breaking down all the time.

Thanks for reading.

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat forum Sj292 although I'm very sorry about your in-laws. It sounds like a difficult time for you all at the moment.

Unfortunately no-one here can answer your question about survival but your brother in law's doctor or specialist can give you more of an insight so if he gives his permission his medical team may be able to discuss this with you.

Our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you want to have a chat with them about this as well. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I really hope your brother in law's treatment goes well, as well as your mother in law's ENT appointment when the time comes.

    Best wishes to you all,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
