Concerned about treatment

My partner was diagnosed with Renal cancer last June 2019 and so far has received no treatment at all.

He has had hospital admissions since June last year for bowel problems and also heart problems.  The bowel problem was treated ⎌with half of his bowel removed and given a stoma.  The heart was treated with tablets and is well controlled.

He was told that the tuma was small last June and he could be treated with laser treatment but it was borderline.  If it grew any larger he would require surgical treatment.
Due to the Corana virus he has been told that he would be required to wait for treatment which has caused concern.

How do you go about expediting his treatment please ?

  • Hello Chris

Over 7 years in our house of similar dilemmas & I presume Covid is making it harder for you to access info etc.

My suggestion is to call the secretary of your lead Consultant, you can get the details via hospital switchboard.

Also, ring the oncology clinic desk, staff are on, & give them your partner's hospital number so they can see some details & explain your concerns , they should message appropriate person for you.

Before Covid, it wasn't so different, you need to be pro-active, polite but very very firm.

    wishing you well & strength

    xx

  • Thank you so much for your reply, what would make life so much easier would be a scan.

A scan would tell me that all the worry is not required and the treatment not so urgent.

if it was bad news it would mean that shielding was pointless and isolation was pointless.

Locking somebody up to protect them could be pointless and regretful if it was bad news and you could be doing final visits to places like the Lake District etc to have memorable times.

Also without the scan and if my partner was to die at home after being locked up for so much time would feel so bitter.
