New diagnosis

Hello 3 nights ago my mum had a seizure and was brought to hospital she was given a CT scan where they discovered shadows on her lung, liver and brain she also has arthritis, she was sent home with steroids, anti seizure tablet, one for her stomach (omeprazole) and a 3 day course of antibiotic as they discovered she had a UTI also, she was told that she will need a lot of hospital appointments at oncology she is very afraid I am trying to alleviate her fears by saying people survive years with this better treatment etc but really I am terrified please can someone give me some advice x

  • Hi there ..

Well your mum will be really scared right now, we've all been there, waiting for results etc ...  and those close to us also can go into panic mode ... but if you can try and stay strong for her .. not saying things like "you'll be o.k" but reasure like "I'll be right there with you" or tell her to hold on, as shadows can be other things too .. as I have arthritis and stenosis too .. so I get shadows on some x rays too .. it's not always cancer ...

And if it is, there are lots of treatments now, there is a better chance of beating it now ... but your mum will cope better if you can hold her hand a guide her ... it's o.k to both admit it's scary ... and you can let it all out when you get in your place ... then after a good cry, get back up and put your strong head on again .. sending you a vertual hug.... Chrissie x
