HER 2 diagnosis during covid

Hello there

This is my first post, saw the oncologist yesterday ~ I'm HER2 positive , ER+ with no lymph nodes. Two operations, lumpectomy and a further cavity shave. I saw the Oncologist yesterday who said that chemo and Herceptin would only add a couple of percent to 10 year prognosis and so advised against both in the light of covid. He said the risks of having chemo outweighed the additional percentages that chemo and Herceptin would give.  I want to give myself the best chance......... I'm just interested what other people's' experience is in the current covid climate.

He has said the choice is mine - chemo would be 12 weeks once a week with Herceptin for a year, involving shielding for 16 weeks.
Thanks

Heather

  • Hi there ..

Are you her 2 negative, or her 2 positive ...

No lymph node spread is good news ... but what grade is the lump .. is it a breast lump ... if so, are you getting a lumpectomy or masectomy ... you didnt say ...

But that decision is really down to you ... write down questions, and ask your oncology team ... every cancer is slightly different .. and I know these early days are really scary ... did they give you information booklets on different treatments ...

There are so many factors to consider.... so give your oncology team a call, as they have all your information and hopefully answer all your questions ...

Your not alone, there's lots of us breast lasses on here.... so hold on ... it's a bumpy ride, but doable .. Chrissie....
