Newly diagnosed with breast cancer

Hello All

So happy to have found this forum.
Went for a routine mammogram to having a biopsy to surgery to remove abnormal cells only to be informed 2 weeks later that a 5mm tumour was found so to remove had to be booked in for a second op to clear margin and tissue from sentinel node

Had the second op yesterday and feeling really sorry for myself today. Moments of tearfulness because it's all happened so fast amid the fear of Covid19!

Just praying now that it hasn't spread to the lymph nodes and that will be the end of it. I believe mine was a grade 2 but don't really understand what any of this means.

Doctors and nurses speak in such technical terms not sure what any of it means?

perhaps if anyone else has been through let me know

Thanks

  • Hi NB25

my mum has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer her tumour was 16mm and today we found out it has spread to 6 lymph nodes. Mums is also grade 2, I believe this measures the rate of growth of the cancer cells grade 1 being slow grade 2 being intermediate and grade 3 fast growing. That was how the consultant explained it to us. I hope this helps.

    good luck with your treatment

I wish you all the best

  • Hello NB25

yes it IS a massive trauma. So many words being thrown at you and often you can only hear one of them. Cancer. That awful word  throws everything else out of the window. In a heartbeat your life changes. Everything changes. I felt I was falling down a massive Hole and there was no one there to grab me.

Cry when you want to. It’s fine. This is big and serious. We don’t need to be heroes.

When I was in hospital after my op I was in a daze really. Not sure what was happening. I felt the appointment I had with the surgeon after about 2 weeks was when I first started to understand what had happened to me. Until then I wasn’t really sure of anything. It’s normal.

Once you have stuff explained to you and you know a future plan it will get better.  Uncertainty and shock are poor company.

I hope your lymph nodes are clear and I wish you well of course.

I am assuming you will have radiotherapy?

    Good luck and stay safe

  • Hello Kebb

Thank you for your reply. It was such a reassuring response.
you are absolutely right in saying that when you get the correct information on treatment etc you are more prepared. It's definitely the unknown that is frightening.
Until I joined this chat I hadn't realised how many women were in the same boat as me.
I am so lucky to have family and friends who are so supportive and keep me positive.
just hoping and praying that the results come back clear. Won't know for another week or so.
I hope you are doing well and wish you all the best too.

    Thank you

    NB25

  • Hello!

yes it’s a bit of a maze to trundle through for sure!! With the definite plane you will at least feel you are ‘on’ it!!

Fanily and friends DO make a terrific difference. I feel that too but I have to add that the women on here are also a big help. We are all travelling a similar journey and I have found a lot of support from just reading how others feel. How they manage the tougher days etc. It’s been an education in itself.

Yes I hope you get the results  you want. Keep us posted.

    Good luck!

i will certainly keep you posted. Ofcourse this  group chat has given me more information than any of the doctors and nurses have provided.
welcome all you support as I am sure everybody else on here does.

someone who has been through what you are going through has more understanding and knowledge

Family and friends can only offer encouragement

    Every little bit helps
