Chemo

Hi everyone, have seen my oncologist today & am starting chemo a week on monday, to say im scared is an understatement.  I have invasive ductal carcinoma stage 3 her positive. But have been assured its treatable & they can give some good treatment for it. Has anyone had chemo & they've used Herceptin amongst other things, just wondering how you found it? Also ive spoken about the cold cap, has anyone had one of these? How was it?

Thanks for all your help & advice, it's much appreciated xxxx

  • Hi Kjents,

I was diagnosed with stage 2 lobular breast cancer in February this year, had mastectomy with reconstruction in March but sadly I rejected the implant and got an infection, so had emergency surgery and the end of March. Had my first chemo session onth 29th April and was dreading it to be honest. I asked for cold cap and i'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to pain but I met a another lady there who was using it and she helped me through it. The first 20 minute's is quite uncomfortable but doable and then it was fine.

I was advised to take paracetamol 20 minutes before but i forgot but the nurses will give you some if you ask, also other anti sickness medication.

M|y first chemo drugs i had were called EC chemotherapy, I'm on day two now and i'm surprised that i feel ok, lots of anti sickness drugs and steroid's which you must take and all I have at the mo is a dry mouth.

I hope this helps and if you need anymore help, then please let me know.

    Good luck and stay safe

    Kind regards

    Helen xx

  • Hi kjenks

I understand  your fear I started my chemo and radiotherapy  this week . It was terrifying going into the hospital, but the depts are all set up and prepared  for us, and we need to be there or the oncologists wouldn't send us at this time.

All I can say is I have been in the hospital  for 5 days straight  and they have been professional  and extremely  careful  of my welfare at a difficult  time

Hope all goes well for you

  • Hi jelmeg
