BRAF targeted drugs (Melanoma)

I have stage 3 meanoma which has gone into my lymph nodes.  I have had surgery and the oncologist has offered me BRAF targeted drugs.    He reeled off a whole list of possible side effects which were truly scary.  Has anyone else had this treatment? I would be interested to know what side efects users have had on this treatment - whether they were  manageable for the 12 months of the treatment.

  • Hi,

I'm Stage 3 but I was diagnosed with melanoma before the adjuvant drugs became available in 2018. I do know several people who are on targeted therapy. I will send you a friend request so that I can send you some information by private message.

    Take care,

    Angie

  • I would very much appreciate that. I am sorry but I am not very IT literate. Do you need me to give you any more information so you can do this?

    Thank you

  • Hi there [@ahutch]‍ im new to this. My husband has stage 3b melanoma but all removed now. He has started tram + dab treatment last month. He was just tired the first month with a few minor other things. He started his second course and ended up with a temperature and generally feeling unwell. He had to go in to hospital and get bloods etc done. He was ok but had to have a 48hrs break and then add paracetamol to his daily treatment. I'd love to know how your coping on these drugs? Thanks

  • Hi mackersssss,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I just wanted to send a quick reply to say that hopefully ahutch will see your post and send a reply, but as they haven't posted on the forum in quite a while, then if you don't receive a reply you may wish to create your own new thread if you would like some support, to hopefully receive replies from others on the forum.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hi mackerssss

I have BRAF positive lung cancer and am on the Dabrafenib and Trametinib combo since last January. I now take the full dose but suffered bad side effects for the first two months and needed a break and a reduced dose. Paracetamol had limited effect for me and the pyrexia plus other side effects were debilitating. What changed things for me was taking daily low dose steroids-prednisolone. 5mg a day.  My oncologist started me on this in May and made a dramatic difference. I hardly suffer at all now. Please your husband's oncologist about this solution.

Good luck and please ask if I can help.
