Neely diagnosed breast cancer

I would love some help and knowledge please.

Had standard mammogram, got recalled to hospital, which I thought was because they hadn't got a clear result.  They did a biopsy there and thrn which knocked the wind out if my sails.   A week later I sat in a room and was told I had cancer.  A week later  I had a lumpectomy and lymph nodes removal.   5 days on... took dressings off and had a total melt down so I'm getting lost in a bottle of prosecco and sobbing and singing.     Been told I will have 15 x radiotherapy and then 5+Yes of tamoxifen.   Wondering how you all get on with radio and tamoxifen?   All advice gratefully received x

  • Hi, sorry to hear that you have joined the big c group, I had a lumpectomy and lymph node removal this time last year, my lymph nodes were clear. I had 15 rounds of radiotherapy and am now on letrazole for 5 years so in a very similar position to you. I found the whole thing quite easy going, I didn't think I would ever get breast cancer which I guess we all think, I took everything in my stride, the radiotherapy was all smooth going. Don't get me wrong, I've had some pretty rubbish times, I went for a mammogram on my own after having pain in my right boob and they found the cancer in my left, had biopsy there and then, I was a mess so immediately phoned my husband who came to the hospital. The op was ok but I did suffer with nerve pain afterwards, if you have this I would suggest having a cushion under your arm which I found helped, when I went back for my results I cried when they said it was cancer but was so relieved when they said I didn't need chemo, I had a fear of that cos i didn't want to lose my hair, sounds daft I know. The radiotherapy was easy and the staff were amazing, I rang the bell after my sessions had finished which I found quite emotional. I have had trouble with the letrazole as they give me very aching joints. My follow up appointment with my oncologist has been cancelled for now because of this bloody virus. I have today been for my first mammogram since the cancer which has been postponed a couple of times again due to the virus, I won't lie I am a little nervous about the results cos I think we all think that we could have secondary but my breast nurse told me it was perfectly normal for us ladies to fear that, I get my results in 2/4 weeks. If I can help at all with anything I will try, I found this forum very helpful although remember we are all different, sending lots of love and positivity xx

  • Awww bless.    Thank you so much for sharing xx

I'm worried about the aching joints as I  plan to start running again... I need to do something!!

Got the cushion under my arm cos it hurts like hell!!

I have to go back to work on Monday cos my company won't pay me and I have to.   Not ideal I know.   Can't even brush my hair yet lol.

Haven't told my family as everyone is far away and they will worry, and everyone is on lockdown.   I have no one to talk to.   I want nothing more than to go and see my sister, but I can't.

I hope you're results don't take 2 to 4 weeks!!   It's a tense time isn't it.  Fingers crossed it's all good and you won't have to wait too long xx

  • Hi,

just take things easy, you have been through a lot, the nerve pain is awful isn't it, it's a pain you can't really describe, take paracetamol and use the cushion as much as possible, it will get easier babe. I can't believe you have to go back to work on Monday, your employer doesn't sound very nice if you don't mind me saying, whatever you do work wise please take care of yourself and don't overdue it. I'm sorry you can't see your sister and family, I know my family meant so much to me when I was going through it, this lockdown is a pain in the bum, you know I am here for your anytime you wait a chat, I know what you are going through and how you feel. The nurse today said that they are obviously not seeing a lot of people atm so results could come in sooner, I am def gonna ring in 2 weeks if I've not heard anything. I have a mass of scar tissue well I assume it's scar tissue and just want reassurance that that is what it is. Remember I'm here anytime xx

  • Hi hun  big hugs all round . I just had a wire guided wide local excision  i have tramadol for the pain.  Took my plasters off and was surprised how neat the scars were . Made sure you do the exercises  that the hospital gave you .   Xxxx
