Gallbladder cancer st.4

Hello, my mum has just been diagnosed with gallbladder cancer today. They have said it has spread and there is nothing that can be done. They are going to fit a stent to help the jaundice. She has been given months. I really don't understand... apart from weight loss and jaundice she is absolutely fine. She has just had a hip replacement and recovered phenomenaly well. How can she only have months when she seems so well? Has anyone else had this diagnosis...? Has anyone got any information that can help me? I'm so confused. the bottom has literally dropped out of my world today. I'm completely devastated... she is being so strong!

  • Hi

my dad recently found out that he had cancer in this area and had a stent fitted. He has had cancer now for 6 years and it has now spread. He was very poorly before the diognosis and pretty much stopped eating altogether, other than the odd bite of something.

The stent has taken away the jaundice and he has been given some steroids to encourage his appetite. Unfortunaly like you'd mum, my dad has been given weeks/months. He is very comfortable and actually today seems very well! Much to our surprise and he is having sips of fluid and even manage one square of chocolate tonight!

i don't know much about this cancer, other than it seems to be very fast acting and once it's found it's often too later for treatment. This is the scariest thing I've ever experienced. I'm 24 and hoped my dad would see much more of my life than this. But I am 100% focused on giving him everything he needs and wants (tomorrow I'm setting the TV up outside ).

it will be very hard when he isn't hear any more but I want to know I have done everything in my power to keep him happy! im sorry I cannot offer any advise, but you are not alone and it's soo normal to be confused/scared/angry. It's all such a shock and it is unfair. I just hope you can find some comfort in looking after you mum or supporting her however she needs you.

    please keep in touch!!

  • I'm really sorry to hear that about your dad. It's honestly heartbreaking. My mum seems so well and thankfully has no issue with appetite at the moment. I'm so confused and scared.

  • We have found it so difficult at this time with coronavirus. My dad can hardly hear and with the masks and he has no idea what people are saying to him. When he came home from the hospital we didn't really have a much information and I've had to do some digging to try and find out what's going on. I'm glad to hear that your mum is still feeling well and eating well. I hope you can enjoy some time together, during these crazy times.
