Refused Colonoscopy

Hi,

My mother in law had a rescheduled appointment today for a colonoscopy as she has cancer of unknown primary which has spread to her lungs and liver.

She took some medication to clear her out for the procedure which made her very ill.

She turns up for her appointment at the hospital wearing protective gloves and a mask and they question why she is wearing it. She says she has cancer and is solely for her own protection.

Because she has lung cancer, she also has a cough which she has had for a very long time. They question her again about her cough. They then say she needs to self isolate and refuse to do the colonoscopy because they believe she has coronavirus and sent her packing. Unbelievable.

I understand they have to be cautious with people having the virus but they point blankly refused to believe her and im absolutely livid. Surely they have her notes. This is wasting precious time we need with her! Im so upset.

  • Hello Elaine0401

I'm sorry to hear about what happened when your mother in law attended hospital earlier this week. It's a very difficult situation at the moment and it's understandable that you're feeling so upset by what has happened earlier this week.

Have you or a family member been in touch with her Consultant since this missed appointment? In the first instance it would make sense to get in touch with them to talk about what has happened and how the situation can be moved forward.

I do hope that you're able to speak to someone soon regarding things.

    Best wishes,
