My dad diagnosed

Hi,

My dad was diagnosed on Tuesday with lung squamous cell carcinoma. They cant stage it or tell us if it's spread yet due to my dads linings of his lungs being to thick and full of fluid, so they are doing a urgent pet scan. I'm so worried about him going into a hospital to have it   how safe will he be with this virus? They did the results over the phone due to him being very high risk but have said he needs to have this

My dad also has severe copd. They have said my dad is limited to any treatment due to his breathing being so bad. What could the treatment be? They have said there is no cure just to control it. What's that mean? Have googled since Tuesday and cant find anything. I'm petrified

  • It's a scary time at the moment but the pet scan is needed and he'll only be in hospital for a few hours and the staff will be brilliant.  My husband has stage 4 lung cancer and secondary liver cancer so I know where you are coming from.  Until they stage the cancer there will be no treatment because they can't treat what they don't know.  Once it's done a meeting will be held by the  medical staff and a decision made by them as to the way forward for Dad.  So you can't guess what will happen you need to be patient but the best will be done for your Dad.  Take care, Carol

  • Hello LucyHelen5

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's recent diagnosis. It's natural that you're feeling scared and even more so given the current situation.

Hopefully the PET scan this week will give the Consultant some more information and they will then be able to talk to you all about what options may be suitable for your Dad.

You may find it helpful to have a chat with one of or team of nurses. I'm sure they'll be able to offer some support and information. You can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm).

    Best wishes,
