Scared

Hi,  I found out on Thursday I have womb cancer I am 67 and terrified the NHS will  forget all  about my age group and older during the coronavirus crisis

I was lucky to get a cancellation CT Scan on Friday but with all the news regarding isolating older people and the shortage of beds in hospitals I need reassurance that we won't be left without care and removal where possible of Cancer in our bodies

If anyone can help calm me down it would be amazing!

  • Hi there,

I am the same age as you and have had surgery for breast cancer.  Currently going through chemotherapy. My team and Doctors have been very concerned about keeping me safe during this Corona virus. I am having a telephone consultation this week with my Doctor to save me going to the hospital, although my next cycle of chemo will go ahead a week on Monday at the hospital. I don't think age will make any difference to your treatment, the NHS will do their best for you. Try to stay calm, , it is scary but you will feel better once the scans are out of the way and your treatment will be decided.
    Wishing you the best,

    Silver

  • Hi Silver. Thank you so much for your kind words and advice.  Its just so overwhelming I have a telephone number to a nursing team and will call them later.

I still have to tell my family and friends about this maybe once I am over that hurdle I will focus better and hopefully stay positive.

  • Hello Merope,

This is such an anxious time and I can understand why having just been diagnosed, you are left with so many unanswered questions and there is so much uncertainty about this for everyone. We have a page on our website on the Coronavirus and cancer which you can find here and which I hope will be useful to you.

Our cancer nurses are available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm if you need to talk to them about anything.

Do talk to your medical team about your worries and how all this might affect your treatment.

I hope everything goes well for you and if you ever feel you need to reach out to anyone in these unprecedented times, our forum is a safe place to reach out to others who are in the same boat at the moment. We are always there for you at any time of the day or night.

    Best wishes,

  • Yes, all the nurses are very supportive. I was  amazed how friends and family rally round,
