Kidney and Bladder Cancer

Hi

just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience. My dad has just been diagnosed with cancer in one kidney, ureter and bladder. I thought he would have surgery he's only 67 and otherwise in good health. But his consultant has said chemo first then maybe surgery depending upon response. Having done some reading it seems chemo isn't first line treatment, I'm so confused, so much to take in.

  • Hello,

in certain circumstances chemo is the first treatment pre op to shrink tumours and contain cancer to avoid spread during any surgery.Reading your post the consultant is saying the chemo might kill the cancer, negating the need for fiurther surgery, but if not, surgery remains an option.

Non surgical intervention would seem to be more preferrable to the alternative ,so l hope it works for your Dad,
