Petrified - Bowel cancer and Liver cancer

I have recently been under investigation for bowel cancer. I had a colonoscopy and they found a tumour which they said was bulky but not obstructing anything. This lead to a CT which showed I also had a Fatty liver. After a MRI and PET scan my nurse called me and arranged an appointment to go and see my specialist.

I asked if they found anything and that's when she told me they have found something they're "worried/suspicious" about in one part of my liver and my results are now being referred to a specialist team for further investigation.

I've to go and see my specialist on Thursday and I'm now terrified it's gonna be more bad news. I feel like everytime I start to get my head around this I get kicked In the gut again. I've been googling and I'm now convinced the worst is gonna happen, I'm only 33 and only just been married 3 years, I feel like my future is being ripped away from me.

  • Hello,

l am sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis, and your uncertainty of what else is to come. Its good news that you will shortly meet your specialist who will hopefully be able to give you more specific information.

Whilst it is only natural for you see everything as being bleak at the moment, once the full picture of your problem is understood ,the pathway to your recovery can be identified and put into practice.

Like yourself l had bowel cancer ,which then spread to the liver, six years later l am still here living and enjoying a full life albeit somewhat damp with all this rain. So l hope this sends a positive message that you are not alone, and that it is possible to continue with your life so long as you can accept a few interruptions along the way

l hope it goes well for you next week and that you can start to feel you are moving forward once again. In the meantime be kind to yourself and yourselves,

                                                                                                                                        David

  • Hi David, thank you for taking the time to reply to me.

I'm glad to hear you're living a full life, unfortunately the weather is crap lol.

Your reply really calmed me down, my head has been going a million mph and it helps to know that other people are going through what I'm going through and are coming out the other side.
