my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer

Hello everyone, i am writing with the hope of finding some advice from anyone that was diagnosed with cancer, pancreatic cancer to be more precise.

My dad was diagnosed 1 month ago, he was rushed to the hospital due to jaundice and non stop hiccups. He had the usual tests and CT scans and it was concluded he has pancreatic cancer, with metastasis in his liver. The biopsy also shows tumors in his lungs now... He was perfectly fine in the begining of december and then by 24 december he was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. I feel even with all progress cancer is still a diagnose that everyone fears and that is really hard to accept. Our confusion comes from how can it be that he didn't have much symptoms since it was already terminal but i guess nothing much can be done now.

At the moment he had his gallbladder removed and is back home, he is very anemic and also because of the late stage the doctor advised against chemo.

I wish and i want to do everything to make him better but because of his anemia and the cancer, he barely eats, his legs are very swollen and he can barely walk. This is in the span of 1 month.

Does anyone have any advise on any remedies to help with his swollen legs at least? Diuretics given by doctors barely worked.

Any other suggestions on what we can do to help him eat more and just potentially make him a bit better for a bit longer?

Thank you so much and wishing you good health.

Welcome to the forum although I'm very sorry to hear about your Dad's situation which has led you here. Undoubtedly it's been a really difficult few months for you all and I'm glad to hear that Dad has been able to come back home.

If you're based in the UK, I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure that they will be able to offer you some advice and support if you give them a call. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
