  • Hello Lyn50

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with DCIS. I'm not sure why your breast feels heavy but do give your breast nurse a call if you're still feeling concerned about things.

We've quite a number of members who have posted on the forum about DCIS. If you use the forum search function (magnifying glass in the blue bar towards the top of the page) you'll be able to read through some of those posts. We also have some information on our website here which may be helpful for you.

If you'd like to speak to one of our nurses you're most welcome to call them. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that your surgery next week goes smoothly. Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi there Lyn.....so sorry you find yourself diagnosed with DCIS. It's 2 years now since my diagnosis. I had a wire guided lumpectomy followed by 15 sessions of radiotherapy. I didn't have any lymph nodes removed though and I can't remember any feeling of heaviness.

What is important to remember with DCIS is that it's totally contained in the milk duct, is not invasive, is totally treatable and most importantly not life threatening.

I now consider myself cured and am on a patient led follow up programme. That means that they don't send for me but I know they're just on the end of a phone if I have the slightest concern about anything. I also have the reassurance of annual mammograms for 5 years.

I wish you well with your treatment. Please let us know how you get on.........Irene xxxx
