Waiting operation

My husband is due to have an operation in two weeks as there is cancer in the right bowel which will be removed. The consultant assures us it is contained and once out there should be no need for further treatment.

At the moment he seems very frail. Aenemia is high and he has had intravenous iron therapy which is taking effect as blood levels are going up. He has had a big weight loss but that seems to have stabalised and he's eating well. He feels the cold and has a distinct hand tremor. For what seems to be a relatively straightforward situation these symptoms are worrying me. I wondered what other people's experiences have been in similar circumstances.

  • Hi Alegna and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry about your husband's diagnosis but I'm glad the consultant is confident about a positive outcome.

If you're worried about how he is at the moment, do be sure to have a chat with his doctor or medical team as they'll be in the best position to advise and answer any questions that may be playing on your mind in the run up to his operation.

Hopefully some of our members will share their thoughts and experiences with you as well but if you'd like to have a chat with one of our cancer nurses you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
