Dad has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer

Last week we accompanied Dad to a hospital appointment where they told him he has esophageal cancer & they couldn't offer any treatment except caring support. He is 86 and has been losing weight for 2 years - he is currently just over 7 stone & has severe COPD.

I really dont know how long we have left with him & what to expect.

  • Hi, glad to hear things are ok for your husband at the moment,  things are not good unfortunately with mine. He has gone downhill steadily and is in the hospice at the moment, they say the tumors are growing rapidly and they can do no more for him except pain relief. His oesophagus tumor has shrunk down but liver tumors are spreading and causing fluid build up in stomach and feet and a lot of pain. He is hooked to a pain pump but they still cant get it under control, apparently it is one of the hardest cancers to treat pain in. We are all finding it very difficult, he is only 44 and we are not ready to lose him but have been told less then a month....so unfair

  • That is very sad and shocking at such a young age. Do you have family support to help with your children? How are your girls coping? Are they going to school? What a lot you have to cope with. I am so sorry for you all.

    best wishes
