New diagnosis

My oh has been diagnosed (yesterday) with floor of mouth cancer, he is naturally floored by his diagnosis and has not taken anything in that the consultant said. He is imagining the worst case scenario. We are waiting for test appointments. He had an X-ray of his jaw yesterday and I know a MRI was mentioned of his head, neck and chest, will there be a lot of tests prior to his MDT meeting to discuss his plan ? His tumour was less than 1cm and a lot was removed at biopsy, the tumour cells showed poorly-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. I'm racking my brain as to what to ask at this meeting as he is thinking he's going to die. Can anyone advise if they have been in the same position please ?

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat forum Janah although I'm sorry for the reason you're joning us.

No doubt your other half is going through a lot of emotions right now but I'm sure he is really grateful to have you by his side on this journey.

We have a section on our website about mouth cancer just here which may give some insight in to what other tests, if any, may be carried out but you're more than welcome to have a chat with one of our cancer nurses about this next week on 0808 800 4040 (Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m) and hopefully some of our members will offer their tips and advice on what to ask in the meeting soon as well.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Your other half will probably have an MRI and a CT scan before the meeting,  that's what I had.  I was also told the biopsy would take out most of the cancer, which it did.   I had surgery to remove the cancer under my tongue,  that was on the 8th Jan.    Doing great now, in fact got the all clear just on Friday.

I hope everything goes well, and if I can be of any help, just send me a message.

    Cheers.  Col.
