Caz

My husband had a colonoscopy on thursday16th Jan 2020 and was bluntly told it's cancer ,surgery and maybe treatment and that's all he was told ,no explanation on where it was or what they where doing

The consultant who was supposed to do was there but let a person who was doing it was learning ,the consultant, did not ask my husband if this was acceptable, all through the procedure he was saying to the person doing it no no you are hitting the sides.you need more putting in and shouting I will have to take over ,but he didn't ,he could see my husband getting very distressed and ending up taking gas and air .after what he told he just said you can go never asked if anyone was with him before he told him it's cancer

I am disgusted with his treatment ,we went to our own doctor the next day who had received ,he explained things to us ,but on leaving the hospital my husband was supposed to be given a discharge form with all the info including where it was on a diagram showing this showing where the biopsy had been taken from ,this was not given to him ,the doctor told him it was in his rectum and they had taken 7 biopsies

I have phoned the hospital and they said they will send out the form but this is being done after the initial shock and trauma

as anyone else been on here had cancer of the rectum that could help and tell me if they have been through this

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat Caz although I'm really sorry to read what your husband has been through. If you want to make a complaint then do get in touch with PALS. We have more information about this on our website just here.

I know you're wanting to connect with others so I've had a quick look through the forum for you and wanted to put you in touch with Ytherod. Their partner underwent a colonoscopy for rectal cancer in November so if you'd like to have a chat with them and find out more, just click here. [@Tweetlebea]‍ was diagnosed last March and [@StaceyK]‍'s dad had treatment for his rectal cancer towards the end of last year so hopefully by mentioning them both in this post they will pop by when they can to offer their support and advice.

Our cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if you would like to talk things through with them as well.

I really hope the next stage of your husband's journey is much better than the first.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
