Oesophageal Cancer

I had the awful news from my mum today that my dad has been diagnosed with cancer.

He's currently waiting contact from the hospital to a arrange for a pre-op to confirm how bad/what stage the cancer is.

From what we've been told, he has a tumour in the lower part near his stomach which has spread to nearby lymph nodes.

It feels as though our world has collapsed around us and we're not sure what options we have.

I'm not really sure what to do now or what the prognosis is for this type of cancer.

Can anyone offer any reassurance based on their own experience? x

  • Hi sorry for your sad news. It's a long process and a waiting game. I was diagnosed with throat cancer  in September and started treatment in January. It felt like forever waiting to see how bad it was. I've been told I'm very lucky but I certainly do not feel it.  In my case I had several scans and finally the PET scan which shows any cancer in the whole body. The diagnostics like this are a great advancement but the treatment is the same old harsh treatment it has always been. All you can do is wait for the scan results. The doctors then tell you what they think is the best option. Best of luck.
