Optima trial or chemo

Hi I was diagnosed on 4th Nov and had an 18mm cancer removed from my left breast on 14th Nov.  There were some cells in my primary lymph node but none in 2nd node.  I saw oncologist in Dec and she explained if I lived in other parts of the country I would not even be offered chemo but my region gives it.  I signed for the optima which either offers chemo or hormone therapy.  I was told I would hear today.  I have worried and stressed all over the holidays and no call today.  I rang the trial nurse at 4 and was told they hadn't run the trial due to Christmas.  I won't know now till 13th.

I can withdraw from trial and just go for chemo or wait another week (2weeks before any treatment).  I don't know what to do.  Is it worth waiting I just don't know.  Has anybody any insight into the trial?

thank you

  • Hi Jackie44

Welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to hear about the reason that has led you here. I do hope that you're recovered from your surgery now.

I know from lots of members here on the site that the waiting can be very hard. Be it waiting for appointments, tests, results or in your case for some treatment to start.

I've had a look on our website and we do have some information about the OPTIMA trial which I've linked for you here

If you're really feeling uncertain about waiting then do give your breast care nurse a call. She will be best placed to chat to you about things and help you to decide which way you'd like to proceed.

i hope that things settle for you soon and that whatever decision you make that the treatment goes smoothly.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your reply.  I've decided to wait and see what the trial comes back with next week then speak to Oncologist on Wednesday about my options.  She did say if I lived in other parts of the UK I would not be offered chemo so I will ask some questions.

    Thanks again
