Lumpectomy defects & reconstruction options

Hi Everyone,

My wife's chemo seems to be going well, and her main tumour has shrunk by 40% to 1.7cm, and the second tumour in the same quadrant is now only 3mm (was 6mm). This was after 4 cycles of EC, and she's now started Taxol.

Her Onc was surpised how well the chemo was working, and seems to think that she might get away with a lumpectomy, but her tumours are in the upper inner quadrant, which seems to be called the no-man's land of breast surgery!

Has anyone had a lumpectomy from this region that would share what sort of cosmetic result they got, and what, if any, reconstruction was done? I've been reading about lipofilling to plump up the defect.

Cheers,

AP

  • Hello AP.

I'm glad to hear that your wife is responding well to her treatment.

Have you spoken to her breast care nurse about your concerns regarding the possible change in surgery? They would be best placed to help with information about your question. However I'm hopeful that some of the ladies here on the forum who have had a lumpectomy may pop along to share their experiences with you.

I hope that the rest of your wife's chemo goes smoothly.

    Best wishes,
