Radiotherapy side effects

Hi all,

I am due to start radiotherapy for breast cancer at the end of the month. I am having 15 normal sessions and 4 booster sessions which are due to finish on 25 February.

I am due to get married on 20 March. Not sure whether to postpone as worried how I will be. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same treatment and were you ok afterwards? xx

  • Hi I'm currently having radiation treatment I have the last one next Tuesday 7th January I myself was worried at first of side effects but coming to the end I feel fine I haven't had any skin reaction whatsoever I've moisturiserised with E45 as recommended and the area is ok I've carried on with daily things through Christmas and new year in this last week I have felt a little more tired than normal a mixture of traveling everyday and Christmas and new year I've had plenty of rest healthy food and vitamin supplements and drank plenty of water and had only 1 day when my emotions ran high feeling sorry for myself ive found it all doable and my energy levels will come back to normal I've been told radiation will continue to work in the body once finished for a couple of weeks I also had reflexology at the hospital which helps to raise energy levels whilst on  treatment.

     Good luck

  • Hi

i have the last of my booster Monday and other than some tiredness and a very red breast, which subsides quite a bit over the weekend so overall all is good,

Congratulations and best wishes for the big day.

    Best wishes

  • Thanks for the reassurance. My appointments are early morning so I will be heading straight to work after. My oncologist said I will be fine until week 3. Just thought it was all a bit tight for timing for the wedding. X

  • Thanks JBee. How may seasions did you have? I am 15 plus 4 x boosters due to met cells in Lymph Nodes. Just was worried my skin will be very sensitive and I may be tired. The oncologist did say I should be ok for wedding but not a honeymoon just now. I did find that a bit strange, why one and not the other . Just don't want to pay all that money for a wedding and I can't enjoy it, but I suppose it is all ifs and buts.

Were you ok to do your usual day to day stuff? I will be working and two kids to taxi about in the evening.

Glad to hear all went ok for you xx

  • I think you'll be absolutely fine hun you'll have 3 weeks to rest before your wedding after you've finished you'll have something to look forward to whilst going every day to hospital is a bit of a pain like I said I finish on Tuesday and I'm fine and I'm also going on holiday on the 29th January to spain for a week Im really looking forward to it

best wishs for your big day x

  • Hi

15 normal sessions and 5 boosters.  I've been fine honest.  A little tired now I'm at the end and using cream from hospital which has been a godsend.  I think you'll be fine but only you will know and it's your big day.  Take time to think of your decision but if it's going anything like mine has gone so far I think you will be good.  I notice with weekend breaks my skin settles down very quickly, so maybe 2 weeks to recover??  I've continued working full time throughout as well.  The only thing I've not done is wear a bra but that's just so I dont irritate the skin.  I really hope it all goes well whatever you decide.

    JBee xx

  • Thanks, fingers crossed.

    Enjoy your holiday xx

  • That's good to know you have been able to work full time too. My appointments are good times 8.30am so means I can head straight back to work. I will look out the soft bras.

2 weeks to recover would be good and then I don't need to worry about pink skin irritating me and rubbing on dress.

Wishing you all the best xx
