Newly diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer

Thank you all for your reply's, don't know if I'm doing it properly but I can't seem to reply to individual posts.

my surgery on 24th December is for lumpectomy on both breasts, so far there is no talk of mastectomy. Obviously I'm terrified but feel reassured that I'm not going to be in complete agony for Christmas Day.
wishing you all a very merry Christmas, and thank you once again for replying to my post.

  • Hi Mary

my BC was different but I can say my lumpectomy was not painful at all, did not even need painkillers.  Even the removal of three lymph nodes the took for testing (negative thankfully) was not painful.  You are in good hands and will be looked after I'm sure.  I've got 6 days left of radiotherapy so far all ok and very manageable

look forward to you letting us know how you got on after surgery as it will be lovely to know all goes well.

Happy Christmas to you and your loved ones

  • Hi there ...

So so sorry you've not had a reply yet .. this time of year , there's so much to do for so many .. but I'm sure they'd all be thinking of you ... I know the 24th is a big no no, for lots but when I worked as auxiliary on maternity... those in over Xmas got spiecial treatment .. that's if your staying in ...

But lumpectomy are most times more painful then a total , like I had .. so take care . ..  baby steps .. and don't over do it when home .. esp if lymph nodes are taken...  it all takes time .. so make the most of chilling ... and be kind to your self ..

Let us know how you go .. fingers crossed .. for recovery...   sending a Xmas hug ...  Chrissie x

  • Thank you for your support, have a great Christmas xx

  • Don't worry too much about the surgery.  I had lumpectomy in August and had no pain at all.  Just be careful you don't do any lifting - like the turkey in and out of the oven on Christmas Day!!  My recovery was very straightforward.  Yesterday I finished 20 sessions of radiotherapy which again was straightforward with no pain or discomfort so don't worry about that either.  I am lucky as it was stage 1 and my lymph nodes were clear.  Let's hope your's is the same.  I now start taking Letrozole for 5 years. Best of luck to you

  • Hi, I just had mine on Tuesday. When I first came round I was a bit surprised how much it hurt. But I was written up for tramadol and the nurse had given me paracetamol. I then asked for ibuprofen which helped. Didnt take any pain relief to sleep that night. I've been out and about, no driving though, and taken the odd paracetamols since. For me, it's the mental aspects that I'm struggling with. The complete paranoia that it's spread.

Get a good supportive sports bra or post surgery bra. I bought an asda one online, made a massive difference to my comfort. I think Marks and Spencers do them also but expensive. But my lump was along a bra wire line, so shaped bras are now out of the question.

Have a lovely Christmas day and take it easy x

  • Thank you for the advice, wishing you a speedy recovery. Merry Christmas

  • That's very positive, hope I cope as well. Consultant said my breast cancer was stage 2 but I'm staying positive myself, I just want it out and start treatment so I can get on with my life.
    have a lovely Christmas

  • Morning Bibi

Did you have mastectomy or lumpectomy in the end, I've not had a chance to keep up with everybody on here lately?  Are you home now and how are things going?

You are so right about the bra side of things, when I had my lumpectomy and lymph node removal, it was my saviour.  Unfortunately since my mastectomy I've not yet been able to wear one but hopefully it won't be long now.

When do you get your results?  Have you a date yet?  I get mine on 7th January and being honest with you, it cannot come soon enough.....

I hope you are heeding your own advice and taking things easy!!!!!  No lifting that turkey out of the oven.

Take care and best wishes Rosie xx

  • Mary, my thoughts are with you.  I am cancer free, had right breast mastectomy 12/12/14.  Just be sure to rest 12/25/2019 and a happy 2020....
