Diagnosis/prognosis

Hi,

New to forum stuff like this.

My dad was diagnosed yesterday with esophageal cancer. Had trouble swallowing but didn't think too much of it, went for a scope and found ulcers, which they then took a biopsy. From there pathology then came back and said there is cancer cells.

Referred for CT scan next week, which I am aware takes time for the results etc.

Wondering if anyone else had similar experiences with this and what the outcome has been. My dad seems upbeat as they mentioned they did not see a tumour and were surprised with the findings but the more I read, the more cloudy the view becomes as I've read similar with short lived outcomes.

Thanks for any help / pointers

Brian

  • Hello Brian and welcome to the forum.
I'm sorry to hear that your Dad has been diagnosed wtih cancer.

I've had a look through the forum but can't see that we've had any members post about being diagnosed with oesphageal cancer after finding ulcers.

Hopefully once your Dad has had his CT scan and the results are back the consultant will be able to discuss what the best option is for your Dad.

If you'd like to talk anything through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

Do let us know how he gets on.

    Best wishes,
