Diagnosed with lymphoma - NOT!!

Hi everyone,

My husband got diagnosed with lymphoma today. Not sure yet what type but it looks like it's stage 3. I don't know what to do. We got married this year and he's only 34. I'm so scared. I thought lymphoma was curable but now I'm not so sure. I don't know why I'm posting this...just looking from a bit of support from people who are in the same boat.

UPDATE:

My husband was misdiagnosed with lymphoma by a doctor prior to the biopsy results. We had the worst Christmas of our lives and it was totally hellish. Today we found out he DOES NOT have lymphoma. They think it's sarcoidosis or an infection.

I wish everyone here that they get good news too if not please stay strong we can beat cancer!!!

All the best and I'll be thinking of you all

  • Hi [@Honey_M]‍

I have been following your story as I am going through something similar symptoms. I am so sorry it is Lymphoma. Please stay strong, you and your husband are in my thoughts and prayers. Like other users have said, it is treatable and get in touch with [@Ross2991]‍  as she is going through the same and may be she can share some more information.

I noticed you mentioned that your husband had xray which showed enlarged nodes. I am wondering did he actually have ultrasound scan of the lump on his throat? I am so worried as I have 2 children and I keep thinking the worst. And the worst thing is my GP thinks I am over imagining things and they are dismissive.

  • Hello Honey,

I'm so sorry to read about your husbands diagnosis, you are both so young.  I know little about lymphoma but, as you know, I've followed your posts and am here if you need some support. Best wishes Rose xx

  • Hi Jess41,

Thanks so much, we're trying to stay strong. Worse things can happen in life I suppose! I'm just worried that he won't live as long a life as he could have? Is that possible? I don't know.

He had a chest x ray, then a ct scan and an ultrasound yesterday.

What makes you worried that you have lymphoma? Our GP was really on the ball to be fair for which we're very grateful.

  • Hi Twolumps!

Thanks for your kind words. I feel quite strong and he took it much better than I thought. Just have to wait to hear which type of lymphoma it is. Hope it's a 'good' one;) we're due some good news!!!

  • Hi [@Honey_M]‍ ,

Thank you for replying despite you are having difficult time. I really hope it is a ‘good ‘ one for you. From what I can see from reading other stories that  it has good prognosis.

About me , I started having pain in my left shoulder and collar bone area. X-ray was normal. Started having pain around August, since then I have been going in and out of GP but they just think it is muscular pain and advised to take ibuprofen and that didn’t help so started on neproxin saying it is inflammation. Then about 3 weeks ago I noticed a lump  left side of my neck. It wasn’t painful then but since I noticed I started feeling it more now it is very painful. The left side of my neck feels very sore and swollen. GP dismissed it saying it is just a normal lump. But the lump is getting bigger. I went for private ultrasound scan as I was so worried and having anxiety and panic attacks. I keep thinking that my children have to live without their mother and it is the worst feeling.

The radiologist who did the ultrasound said it is normal. There are 2 nodes that are slightly swollen but it is normal

I still keep thinking it is something sinister. I had scan about 2 weeks ago. The lump has grown since  now it is bigger and it is very painful.

i am just wondering if ultrasound can differentiate the cancerous lump or normal lump.

When your husband had ultrasound, did they say straight that it was lymphoma or was it from CT scan? Because I remember you were saying that the biopsy was on the 13th?? So the result is not back yet so how did they confirm it was Lymphoma.

I am so sorry I am asking all this questions.

    Xxx

  • Hi there,

Ask all you need to know, I was the same. Desperate for a bit of good news.

The ct scan results came as we were having the ultrasound and the biopsy done so they had all the info. I think the woman who did the biopsy could tell from how the lump felt that it was lymphoma.

If your lump is painful then it's more likely to be nothing sinister. My hubby has enlarged lymph nodes in his chest too. If all the scans are saying you're fine then you probably are. But don't stay complacent and don't let others make you feel like you're over reacting. It's always good to get things checked. We never thought my healthy hubby would get CANCER at 34!!!! We just got married and have been planning our big trips around the world. Now life will need to be put on hold but only for a while!! I guess the worst thing for me is seeing him upset. I wish it was me having cancer not him.

  • [@Honey_M]‍ Yes I guess I am looking for some kind of reassurance . Once again thank you for your time. And I am really sorry I am not much help to you other then keep you in my thoughts and prayers. How is your husband doing? I guess you both are trying to figure out what is going to happen next and probably once the staging is done you can focus on treatment plan.

I am really struggling at the moment with anxiety.I have this feeling this is bad. I am also having pain in my groin area for a week and today I noticed slight swollen area in my groin area, no lump as such but just a little swollen and pain. I am so scared :(

  • Do you know what we'll just have to deal with whatever comes our way. Things happen it's a challenge and we'll get through it.

Just watched a programme on bbc about Doddie Weir and it's made me so sad. There is no cure for his illness. Everyone is so scared of cancer but cancer isn't the worst thing to get.

I think you really need to consider whether what you're feeling is a genuine health concern or are you perhaps overly conscious of your body and are suddenly aware of every ache and pain? Remember stress will most likely be behind those issues.
