My dad has just been diagnosed

I recently turned 18 and my dad has just been diagnosed to have A tumour on his lung and they plan to remove it and start chemo. The chances of survival are high but I'm scared of his life after will he ever lead a normal life again or live for my then a few years he's only 47 and I'm not ready to lose him yet

  • Hi

Sorry you are going through this with your Dad.

It all seems to sound positive after treatment.

He is young so his recovery should be quicker.

If it makes you feel any easier, I have a friend who lost a lung to cancer and manages ok with the one.

The treatment stage will pass and you can all look forward x

  • Hi TC

I have recently been diagnosed with a different cancer, head n neck, but I'm the same age as your dad and have a son the same age as yourself, the only advice I can give is to work with him to get the level of support he needs, there will be days where he wants to spend time with you doing the normal stuff, there will be days when he wants to sit with you and watch a movie, or the football, there will be days when he needs his own space & thoughts, just be there, its undoubtedly going to be a long journey back to health. rest assured he needs you with him every step of it.

I wish both you and your dad all the very best, you sound like the type of guy he will be enormously proud of.

    Kind Regards

    Garry
